Our Story

While we were all forced to undergo lockdown from 23rd March for the benefit of everyone, some of them had bigger responsibilities and challenges. One such person, Dr. Jose, from Kottayam Medical College, discussed the issue of full protection for people in the frontline fighting against Covid 19. What emerged from this was assessing whether engineers like us can contribute in some way. After initial search, we figured out that face shields prescribed in western countries need some amendments to suit our needs in India.

Navgathi design team was engaged to refine the design and prototypes printed using 3D printers. This was shared with doctors from various hospitals like Kottayam Medical College, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajagiri Medical College, Medical Trust. Based on these feedback the product design was finalised. We also realised that face shields were required in large numbers, much more than what 3D printers can make.

We decided then to move to large scale manufacturing using injection moulding. As a fist step the mould making process was initiated. This enabled us to take production to 5,000 pieces per day. Vista Marine team was engaged to manage the manufacturing. Hans is ensuring that the product reach the needy. Now we can serve a much larger section of people and make an impact in this fight against Covid 19.
